Statement of Process
ridge and recollection is a meditation where the fluidity of alcohol ink becomes a representation of memory: elusive, porous, and resistant to fixed borders. The piece emerged from fieldwork at the US-MX border, where the monumental Spooners Mesa looms over the ever-shifting Tijuana River Valley; the repeating patterns of ridges and rockfaces mirror the fragmented act of recollection. The final piece exists in eight separate panels, the intentional gaps symbolizing the unseen narratives imbued on the land. It is not a recreation of a place, but of the enduring traces left in the mind, acknowledging what is lost between perception and the specter of memory.
