Transcendence (n.) existence or experience beyond the normal or physical level.
Transcendence in the Desert
The Foundation
The womb, cradled in the ring, symbolizes The Seed, the unmanifested individual self. A discrete being in search of shelter as a precursor to further development. Encircling the base of the totem, a shrine guides participants toward the ritual of life and transformation.
The Synapse
This represents the Evolution of the Self. Each vase, progressively narrower and stacked with increasing delicacy, signifies stages of development from the individual “I” to the universal “Us”. They are vessels of the shifting understanding, transforming from the material to the ethereal nature of the connected conscious.
The Zenith
The cones, pointing skyward, symbolizing The Ascent as a culmination of the journey from the individual to the collective, directing energy beyond the corporeal plane towards a greater meaning. The uppermost section acts as a receiver, suggesting an openness to the great wind that encompasses us all.
This collaborative effort presents an exploration of human consciousness, tracing a journey from the solitary, foundational experience of the individual self to the connected nature of transcendence. The project manifests this ascent, giving form to the meditative tension between the burden of the self, the "I" constrained by its material needs and solitary perspective, towards the liberating force of a reality greater than the individual, the connected “Us”.
Trancendence presents a visual narrative on the journey of life, moving from separation to connection.
Culmination
As a unified totem enmeshed in the vastness of the desert, the work completes its arc. It stands as a testament to the human transformation, its form complementing the landscape while reaching beyond it.
